Hi Diana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story did not begin in this country. It began in Medellín, Colombia, where the dream of becoming a professional often feels distant and out of reach. When I migrated in 1999, and years later became a mother, my perspective deepened. I recognized the responsibility I carried, not only to build a meaningful life for myself, but also to become the best version of myself for my children. I wanted to pave the way for them and to be a role model they could look to with pride.
They have always been my greatest inspiration. At the same time, I became increasingly aware of the unique and persistent challenges faced by the Hispanic community in accessing mental health care. I saw a clear need for bilingual and bicultural counselors who could truly understand the cultural context, language, and lived experiences of this community. That realization guided my decision to enter the mental health field—not only to serve my community, but also to educate and empower individuals to recognize the importance of caring for their mental health and seeking support without shame…
